Joyce's Chemocap blog

Please check out our blog for our Joyce's Chemo Cap Project. There's a lot of interesting things in it. I'm sure you'd enjoy it. It's joyceschemocaps.blogspot.com. Enjoy!

Blogs and rabbits

I've been looking at other blogs and found that it is really interesting to see how other people around the world live. One of them really inspired me to add to my blog. And I thank her for it! So I've added my library to show books that I really enjoyed. Oh, there are many more that I haven't added yet and those that I don't even remember the titles.

On the downside! I think there's a naughty little bunny eating my new plants! Two plants were really nice and even had flowers on them. The other day I went outside and one of the plants had nothing but a few sticks! I knew it was a rabbit from experience with my plants in Michigan. I put something on my plants that deter rabbits. This morning the plant next to it was in the same condition. I have to find where he's getting under my fence. Everything else looks good. And my little hummingbird is in the yard all the time now.

Knock Out Roses

If you want flowers at good prices, this is the time to buy! I bought 4 Knock Out rose bushes today at Lowe's for $6.00 each. And I bought some holly bushes for $1.00 each. I already planted them along side my house. I wanted plants on the sides so one side is taken care of. I'm still waiting for my lilac bush to come from MI Bulb. Now I have to find some myrtle (not the crape myrtle) ground cover for some areas outside of my fence.

Meanwhile, it's going to be 102° today! Time to stay in the house for the rest of the day...oops, gotta get diapers, cat food, hair conditioner and probably a few other things. I'm waiting for the mail to come too. I'm expecting the Shaka Zulu movie that I ordered. I had it on tape once but a girl borrowed it and you'll never guess! Right! I never got it back. She quit working with us and never brought my movie back. I love the series that was on TV. And I'm waiting for E.T. for Dallas. She's been watching it every day but I have to return it to Blockbuster.

So my question for anyone is: When can we start potty training Dallas? And should I buy some training pants for her now? She's 23 months old.

102° OR MORE!

It's hot today. Denny, Jamie, Dallas and I went to Lake Lavon because we discovered a beach there. It was nice. There wasn't a lot of people there. In fact, besides three women and their boys, we were the only other people. Denny sat under a tree. Jamie and I stood in the water watching over Dallas. When we left, we went to Wylie and ate at the same restaurant we ate at Saturday night. Then we went to a candy store and bought four different kinds of fudge. Before you think that we're all going to have to get new clothes, we only bought 1/4 of a pound each. We went to a nice little 'women's' shop. Denny bought Jamie and me each a nice ring. So, in spite of being a really hot day, it turned out pretty good. At least the beach is close to us so we don't have to go far. And, I'm going to bring my fishing pole there! I have to go back to the restaurant because they have homemade pie and I have to have a piece of coconut cream! Oh, the restaurant is called Ballard Street Cafe.

Speaking of low pants

I saw this picture on a blog while I was looking through the blogs and thought that this picture was so cute. I don't know who the boys are but I had to save the picture.

Senior of the future

I saw this cartoon today and just had to put it in my blog. I've seen some weird looking seniors sometimes at the senior center or out in the public. Some women with really big wigs, men with their hair combed over, men with tatoos on their arms from their war days, women with facelifts where their lips almost meet their ears but after seeing this cartoon in the paper, I thought about the young people that are walking around dressed all in black with piercings and tattoos on every visible (and I'm sure 'not visible') places of their bodies, either bald and tattooed or hair every color that you can find in a Crayola box. I never thought about what they would look like in the future. Can you just imagine the senior centers of the future? The only thing the cartoon doesn't show on the senior is his pants hanging down to his knees with underwear showing. God forbid the seniors of the future will wear their pants like they do now. It's going to be hard enough for them to walk when they're old. Not only will their legs be bent from age but their legs will be bent from trying to keep their pants from falling below the knees. Anyway, I liked the cartoon and just had to share it with you. Any opinions on this post?

99° Today

It's a warm one today! I worked in my yard but early before the heat got higher than 90°. It was already in the 80s. I pulled grass around my flowers. We actually had some rain yesterday. I was doing a good job on the grass except I had a little helper that was dropping the grass on my head. By the time I was done, there was more grass on me than what I even pulled. How did that happen? Dallas pulled grass that I didn't want pulled! But she left to pursue other trouble, like pulling my flowers! She loves balls and has over 10 of them in the yard. But she'd rather annoy Grandma.

I went to pick up yarn at the chemo center yesterday that a patient bought for our project. The cancer patients are so happy to get our caps. We're over 2500 now.

Today I have to 'sew' Jamie's extensions in her hair. I'm not a pro so she'll have to take what I can give for help. Hey, I think I'll look on the internet for instructions. I use the internet a lot to find things. Every time there's an argument here, I look it up. The big argument now is over Brett Favre mispronouncing his name. Denny insists that his name is pronounced correctly. How can you pronounce a 'R' before the 'V'? I say it should be pronounced fav-ray.
Oh well, I guess there are more important things to worry about. Denny's friend lost $350,000 this week in his funds. Scary, isn't it? We don't know if we should take out our little bit and put it in savings before we lose everything.

Time to look for instructions now.

Computers drive me crazy!!!

The last few days have been driving me computer crazy! I've had the problem of internet 'crash' for a long time and hate it. Then the other day, my sister's emails came without her name and it was all a bunch of letters with her words mixed in. Very frustrating. And none of my mail was going to my friend, Vivian. I thought she was in the hospital or something because she didn't answer my mail. I finally called her. She didn't get any of them. So after trying different things and trying to contact help, I gave up and closed my Incredimail because I didn't have the problems in the regular email on Internet Explorer! It cleared up my email but I liked Incredimail. But, now I can't open my music provider, Limewire! Ohhh, the frustration. So I have to take it out on my blog to bitch. There, now I feel better...well, not really. But I can pretend.

On a good note, I watched a special on Natalie Wood last night on TV. It was really good. I wish they'd bring back some of her movies on TV instead of the same movies like Dances With Wolves, Shawshank Redemption and a few others. Oh well, maybe the TV networks are having the same problems with their networks that I have with mine!

Back to Natalie, I didn't know that she had a real fear of being in water! The weird thing is that she was in water in a few of her movies. And then she drowned. That's still a mystery.

So, last night was the Country singing contest which there are only two good singers, tonight is the best talent show, which is interesting. Sure isn't anything on TV this summer. I can't wait until the fall shows start! Except I don't want fall to get here any too soon.

That's all, folks!

Those ugly red wasps! Ouch!!

It was nice out this morning before everyone got out of bed so I went outside to do a little gardening. I need to pull the grass out of my ‘expanded’ garden space. I was working in the corner under a spider web. I didn’t see any spiders and I wasn’t going to bother him anyway so I kept pulling grass. All of a sudden, I felt a sharp jab in my arm. “Oh no, a spider got me!” was my first response. I knew it had to be a black widow or a brown recluse. But a big red wasp flew around me so I knew what got me! I put peroxide on it and looked on the internet to see what to do. Nothing! Unless I had a allergy. It sure hurt and it still hurts. Right now it looks like a real big vaccination. I don’t know if there’s a stinger. I guess it will work it’s way out.

So this afternoon, I went outside. (after we returned from the Plano parade which was a flop to us. I love bands and there was only one band. I wonder what happened to the three Plano High School bands.) I pulled weeds around our trees in the front yard and planted four of my ‘distressed’ plants. The distressed plants in my back yard are doing great! Nice purple flowers.

It’s funny but when I turned 40, I happened to have my doctor’s, dentist and eye appointment . Each asked me my age. When I said 40, they all said almost the same thing:
The Doctor: Well, things start happening when you turn 40!
The dentist: Well, your teeth need a lot more work after you turn 40!.
The eye doctor: Well, when you turn 40, your eyes start getting worse!
ManOMan! I should have told them that I was 39. They probably would have said that I was in good shape.

So today a funny thing happened when I was digging and planting. My neighbors were leaving. The man next door (I don’t know his name because they are Muslim and they all have long names) came to the front and asked me if it wasn’t too hot for me to be working in our heat. I told him that I’m used to hot weather and don’t mind it at all. He said “I just thought that I would ask because a lot of people when they get your age some times they get sick or something happens to them. I laughed and told him that I’m fine and if I start to get tired or overheated, I go in the house and rest and get something cold to drink. He left and I started to continue my work. Then I thought ‘Well, this is a good time to take that rest and get something cold to drink’. I’ll do the other side later.

This was my 4th of July.

Distressed flowers and my friend Shirley

I had a good garden shopping trip today. Yesterday I had to get one brick to finish off the edging around our trees in front. Jordan came over and laid them for us. What a good job he did. It was just too much for Denny to do in this heat. So, while I was there, I saw a big rack of plants that were 50% off the marked down price because they were ‘distressed’. I got four plants yesterday for $1.50 each. So today I went back and got 10 more. Now I have to plant them! I have to figure out what side of the house has the most sun. Oh, all of the plants are perennials.
They don’t look distressed to me. Oh well, I’ll talk to them and that will perk them up!

Yesterday I was going to send a birthday note to one of my dearest co-workers, Shirley Cook, that I worked with at Meijer. We both took the early retirement. Well, she beat me to sending me a note. She is so funny. When we worked together, we sat next to each other. I know that she’s a couple of years younger than I am but I don’t know how many. She’s a very pretty woman and you would think from looking at her that she would be really dignified. NOT! She is just a barrel of fun. One time she found a dead mouse in her garage that the insides disinagrated so it was a hollowed out mouse but it looked so real. She put the mouse on my desk for me to find when I got back from training a new person. When I got back, I had a pointer in my hand. I saw the mouse, cried out “eeeeeeek,” took the pointer and flipped the mouse off from my desk. Our supervisor, Colleen, happened to be walking by and the mouse hit her! She screamed, everyone came running and we all had the biggest laugh after Colleen picked herself off the floor! Just kiddin’. She was fine. I waited the rest of the day for her to bring Shirley and me empty boxes and be escorted out the door. It was always a scary thing to see. If a supervisor walked by with an empty box to someone’s desk, we knew it was to put all of the team member’s personal belongings in. Then we’d gossip the rest of the day to find out why the member was fired.
Shirley would bring things in to identify from our childhood days. She brought a roller-skate key in one day and, of course, the young people didn’t know what it was. Do you?
We had fun. We started a lot of cute things like everyone bringing in a picture of themselves when they were young and hanging the picture by their desks. It was really cool to see how people change in just a few years.

Tomorrow is the 4th of July. To everyone who reads this, I hope you had a very happy 4th!
